What is Hononga Takatāpui?

We are very excited to launch a brand new fund; Hononga Takatāpui, a programme that recognises, values and supports strong takatāpui communities. We are offering grants up to $10,000 to support your Kaupapa. Learn more and find out how to apply below.

Created with specific mātāpono in mind, the Hononga Takatāpui Fund will provide financial assistance to individuals, groups, and legal entities delivering events, wānanga, services, or outreach to takatāpui communities and Māori of a range of diverse identities. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Takatāpui; or
  • Wahine moe Wahine; or
  • Tane moe Tane; or
  • Whakawahine or Whakatāne; or
  • Tāngata irawhiti; or
  • Tāngata irahuhua; or
  • Tāngata taihemarua; or
  • Any other identity expressed by Māori relevant to Rainbow communities.

Grants come in three different categories: Pūtea Whanaungatanga (up to $1,000), Pūtea Manaakitanga ($1,001 to $5,000), and Pūtea Kaupapa ($5,001 to $10,000).

Who can apply?

If you have a kaupapa that is aimed at supporting takatāpui communities and Māori of a range of diverse identities, this fund is for you!

We also ask that all kaupapa:

  • Have a high level of Māori participation, and;
  • Have a high level of Māori participation, and;
  • Are led by, or in partnership with, māori, and;
  • Promotes, supports and strengthens Māori identities.

And:

  • Are events, or;
  • Are a wānanga, or;
  • Are from groups that support Māori communities, or;
  • Are for any other kaupapa that aligns with the intents and aims of the funding programme.

Please note: Anyone can apply for Pūtea Whanaungatanga or Pūtea Manaakitanga (up to $5,000). However applications for Pūtea Kaupapa (over $5,000) must come from a legal entity.

How does it work?

  1. Apply via our website;
  2. We will do an initial check and come back to you if we need further information to complete your application;
  3. We will assess all completed applications and recommend an appropriate level of funding;
  4. Recommendations will be reviewed and approved;
  5. Applications of up to $2,500 can receive 100% of the funded amount upon receipt of an application letter;
  6. Applications of more than $2,500 can receive 80%* of funding upon the signing of a funding agreement, then the final 20%* upon completion of the kaupapa and a wrap-up report.

* The amount released before and after the kaupapa is complete may differ on a case by case basis.
