Sexy Tips for Before, During and After

Here's a list of tips that we couldn't fit in our Pūkoro Ure Fit Kit booklet, that could be useful for when you are ready to use your new fit with a partner.

As well as links to a bunch of amazing articles that can teach you a lot of really important things about sex, prevention, consent, and so much more!

Before sex

  • Remember to talk about consent. Find out what the “dos and don’ts” are for you and your partner/s. This is not a mood killer, as some may try to say, in fact talking about the sexy things you do want to do together should be the exact opposite!

  • Check the expiry/use-by date first. If it’s expired, throw it away and use a new one

  • Thinner condoms can give you more sensitivity and thicker condoms can help you last longer.

  • Open by tearing the edge with your fingers – don’t use your teeth! It looks hot, but can damage it.
  • Add a bit of lube inside the tip of the condom for more sensitivity.

  • Make sure the rim (the thick ring part) is on the outside so it looks like a little beanie. If you start to put it on inside out, throw it away and get a new one – there might be precum on the part that’s meant to be the outside now, which would defeat the purpose of wearing one to be safe.

  • Ensure there are no air pockets in the condom - if there are, try to squeeze them out towards the base.

During sex

  • Use lots of lube! But, never an oil-based lube with condoms.

  • Remember silicone lube can damage silicone toys or prosthetics - use water-based lube with these
    instead.

  • If the condom breaks during sex, don't panic. Stop once you notice and head over to our Been Exposed? tool.

  • Keep checking in with your partner/s to make sure they’re still comfortable and let each other know what is feeling the best. Like what you may each may want more or less of, for example.

After sex

  • After you’ve cum (or whenever you’re finished) hold onto the base of the condom when pulling out. Wrap it in a tissue and put it in the bin – not down the toilet. It’s a good idea to pee too! If you can't throw it out right away, or you don't have tissues nearby, you can tie a knot in the condom and throw it away later.

  • Store condoms in a cool place out of direct sunlight (like your Pūkoro Ure FitKit bag!)
